Meadow Fishing in October

With morning temps in the 20's, Buck and I have 

been spending more time on the couch and less time outdoors. 

But, this Sunday the weather warmed up and we drove south to explore 

a meadow that boasts of "trophy cutthroats".

Even though we did not come across any of them, 

the quiet space and fall colors made the day memorable.

With blood orange San Pellegrinos packed, we hiked in the meadow 

stripping streamers and watching the cutthroats chase them as they neared the bank. 

The red, orange, and yellow hues made parts of the vegetation look as though they were on fire.

Without the sounds of crickets and hoppers, it was pleasantly quiet and serene. 

As we were leaving, we saw this fellow hunting for dinner as well as a beaver and a herd of elk. 

The October colors reflected in the stream as the sun set and the fish rose to midges.

We are hoping for a few more days like this before winter.

  

Southern Visitors

Last month we met up with good friends Andy and Carolyn in Jackson for the weekend.

It is always comforting to be in the company of them and their family,  

and an extra treat to be visiting them in beautiful Wyoming in the fall.

On our way home, Buck and I had some luck as we stopped to fish a few streams 

we passed as we crossed into Idaho.

Cambio de Estación

Welcoming Fall in Pocatello, I find myself fighting impending 

anxiety about winter weather by being

 mindful of the daily blessings of this season. 

Squash displays at the Farmer's market, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, 

crimson mums on porches, and windy afternoons in the backyard with the pups, 

are a few of the blessings that are embraced.

It's hard to believe this is our third Fall out west, I'm looking forward to a few more.

Chicago Treat

The Canerdays treated us to a fabulous weekend in Chicago at the end of August. 

Beautiful art, delicious eats, a classic ball park visit, and excellent company made it a memorable Labor Day weekend.

Many sites were seen as calories were burned (later consumed via deep dish pizza) and we ended our filled days on the couch in the hotel. Leaving work stress behind was effortless.

Even though Buck and I were made aware of what poor shape we are in after walking all day,

 we enjoyed all of the sites and especially being with our family. 

Thank you Bec and Vic for hosting the perfect trip to Chicago; 

it was a pleasant change of pace from the pokey life.
